Dr. Feldman is a founding director of the Fort Lauderdale Eye Institute that he began in 1970. A life-long resident of Florida, he received his B.S. and M.D. degrees from the University of Miami. Following medical school graduation in 1961, he completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y. After a course in Basic Ophthalmic Sciences at Harvard, he completed a residency in ophthalmology at The Bronx Municipal Hospital Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
He then spent a year's fellowship at the Proctor Foundation in San Francisco under the direction of Dr. Phillips Thygeson. There, he studied the care of diseases affecting the external eye, especially the cornea. As a fellowship-trained corneal specialist, Dr. Feldman is particularly well qualified to manage conditions of the cornea, including refractive surgery. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. In addition, he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology where he is belongs to the Refractive Surgery Interest Group, Broward County Medical Association, Broward County Ophthalmology Society, Miami Ophthalmology Society and Proctor Fellows' Association.
Dr. Feldman performed a radial keratotomy procedure in Broward in 1981. This was the first refractive surgery of any kind performed in Broward County. He has been closely involved with all recent developments in refractive surgery including LASIK, LASEK, and CK, the new procedure for middle-aged people who want to rid themselves of reading glasses. Dr. Feldman is pleased that 20 years after he began his work in refractive surgery, he can offer so many safe and effective procedures undreamed of when he began.
