Dr. Skolnick’s specialty is Comprehensive Ophthalmology with special
interests in diseases of the anterior segment of the eye – cataract, glaucoma,
dry eye, allergies, infections, inflammatory conditions, corneal diseases, and
vision correction surgery. He is Board Certified by the American Board of
Ophthalmology and is one of the team Ophthalmologists for the Florida Panthers
Hockey team. He regularly performs no-stitch/no-patch cataract surgery, glaucoma
surgery, refractive surgery (LASIK, LASEK, PRK, AK, and CK), cornea transplants,
and laser eye surgery. He was one of the first surgeons to perform LASEK and
Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) in South Florida. Dr. Skolnick prides himself on
keeping up with the latest medical treatments and surgical advancements
including both traditional modalities and alternative therapies.
Dr. Skolnick moved to Florida from New Jersey in 1980
and grew up in nearby Coral Springs. After graduating from
the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, he received his
Medical Degree at the University of South Florida, finishing
near the top of his class. He completed his medical/surgical
residency in Ophthalmology at Loyola University of Chicago.
He spent a large portion of his training at the Edward
Hines, Jr. V.A. Hospital caring for Veterans, who
predominately served in WWII, The Korean War, and Vietnam.
As a Chief Resident, Dr. Skolnick learned the latest and
most advanced methods of cataract, glaucoma, and laser
surgery. After completion of his training he returned to the
area and now resides in Davie with his wife and children.
Dr. Skolnick remains active in research and has
published articles in several peer reviewed Ophthalmologic
journals. He is an investigator for a number of FDA approved
clinical studies related to dry eyes, corneal infections,
and blepharitis. He still teaches medical students,
optometry students, and medical residents from the local
university. In the last five years, he has been featured
four times on the local news stations’ health segments (ABC
and FOX). Recently, Dr. Skolnick was one of fifty physicians
selected nationwide to participant in the National
Ambulatory Medical Care Survey, sponsored by the U.S. Dept.
of Health and Human Services. He is a member of the
prestigious International Society of Refractive Surgery and
American Academy of Ophthalmology. Not only is Dr. Skolnick
a skilled surgeon and excellent diagnostician, but he is
compassionate and dedicated to his patients’ well being.
