Dr Gil Epstein had a very busy summer this year. He had a publication in the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive surgery ( a journal for eye plastic surgeons) describing a new technique for the treatment of ectropion. Ectropion is a condition of the eyelid that causes the lid to turn outward. He was invited to present this paper at the annual meeting in November 2012.
Dr. Epstein was also invited to present a talk at the Florida Society of Ophthalmology in June where he discussed ptosis. Ptosis is the drooping of the upper eyelids. He discussed ptosis surgical techniques and its use in high risk patients. These include dry eye patients, patients with previous eyelid surgery, as well as patients with glaucoma and corneal disease. in addition, he discussed the role of combining cosmetic surgery such as blepharoplasty with ptosis surgery.
Finally Dr.Epstein discussed expanded treatments with Botox & Dysport for both Blepharospasm and rejuvenation of wrinkles. Fillers including Restylane and Radiesse were also discussed which are used from nasal-labial folds to marionette lines and also to the lips
