Dr. Rous is a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist with special interests in Refractive Surgery and Cataract surgery. On a regular basis he performs Lasik, Lasek, Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), Conductive Keratoplasty (CK), Astigmatism surgery (AK), no stitch Cataract surgery with advanced intraocular lens technology and Cataract Refractive surgery which reduces astigmatism at the time of the cataract surgery.

Dr. Rous is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American Aacademy of Ophthalmology. He moved to Florida in 1973 from his native state of New Jersey where all his formal education took place. He graduated from Rutgers University in 1965 and, in 1969, from the New Jersey College of Medicine ( formerly, Seton Hall College of Medicine and, now, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey ). His internship was served at the Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, N.J. from 1969-1970 and his Ophthalmology residency was completed at the Associated Eye Residency program of the New Jersey Medical School 1970-1973 where he presided as chief resident in 1973.

Dr. Rous is a co-founder of the Fort Lauderdale Eye Institute. He has spent his entire career always striving to provide the best of care for his patients. He likes to feel that he has retained the significance of what it means to be a physician and to put his patients needs at the forefront. He has been at the cutting edge of so many of the advances in Ophthalmology that have taken place over the past 30 years and brings that gratifying experience to his patients in a warm and kindly way.

Dr. Rous was among the first in the country to do Lasik in 1996. His early training in Radial keratotomy (RK), AK and Automated Lamellar Keratoplasty (ALK) helped to provide a smooth transition to Lasik once the excimer laser became FDA approved for PRK in 1995. Unlike most other Ophthalmologists, he did not require any additional training to perform the Lasik operation because he was, already, trained and experienced in all the necessary prerequisites.

Dr. Rous was, also, among the very earliest Ophthalmologists in the country to perform small incision, no stitch Cataract surgery in September of 1990, at a time when the majority of eye surgeons were still doing large incision cataract surgery with multiple stitches. He has lectured and instructed at national meetings on cataract surgery, intraocular lenses and no stitch cataract surgery. In the 1980's, he developed an FDA approved intraocular lens. More recently, he developed a simplified anesthesia technique for cataract surgery which can be applied to other eye surgery procedures, too. Dr. Rous' work on "Simplified sub-Tenon's Anesthesia", as well as other papers, have been published in several peer reviewed journals. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Nova-Southeastern University.

Dr. Rous' outside interests include his family, physical fitness, bicycling and nutrition. He is a member of the Lance Armstrong Cancer Foundation.
